The August 27 2022 New Moon in Virgo is strongly connected to the planet Mars (drive and energy) traveling through the intellectual and mental sign of Gemini whose ruler, Mercury, must obey the rules of diplomatic and equilibrium-seeking Libra.
This combination of celestial factors is reminiscent of the Greek myth of the God Zephyrus. Before becoming the softened version of the West Wind, he was, along with his brother, Boreas, very immature and as such, unbridled and savage. Both took immense pleasure at stirring storms in the sea. Out of Zephyrus' mouth came out the menacing West Wind. Eventually, through his marriage with the peaceful Iris, messenger of the gods, his personality calmed down and the quality of the wind he created became gentle and sweet.
In the Mythic Tarot, this myth is associated with the Page of Swords, a card that can symbolize the impact of concepts, ideas, and words either in stimulating the formulation of powerful strategies or the beginning of powerful battles. It is often associated with gossip or news that shatter us out of the complacency of our daily rituals.
At the heart of this card, though, is the potential for an individual to exercise the power of independent thinking, but with careful consideration. This emerging thought, idea or concept can be put eventually, if carefully nurtured, into practical use.
Great mental energy can be spent during this month which may require at the Full Moon, in 14 days, some time for rest and recuperation.
The down side of this New Moon will be the scattering of our energy into small projects that will not serve our ultimate goals. Some discernment will be required to put this upsurge of creative mental energy into good use. We must also be weary of not dismissing others' input or ideas as we charge ahead with our own. Formal agreements or important communications should wait until at least October 2 when Mercury will move forward through the sign of Libra. Ideas or thoughts will need refinement and careful consideration until then.
It must be noted also that this intensification of our mental energy will last several months as Mars will travel through the sign of Gemini until April, 2023. During this length of time, he will proceed with a retrograde motion between October 30th, 2022 and January 12, 2023.
